A TV legend will be hoping to master the ballroom in a BBC dance competition.

Johnny Ball, who presented popular children's show Play School from 1964 to 1988, and the educational Think of a Number between 1977 and 1984, will be a contestant on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, which starts tonight (Saturday).

The Farnham Common resident will join a host of other celebrities attempting to outdance each other, including cricketer Michael Vaughan, Girls Aloud's Kimberley Walsh and Olympic cyclist Victoria Pendleton.

He will also be competing against Dani Harmer, best known for playing curly-haired Tracy Beaker in the CBBC series The Story of Tracy Beaker, who attended Redroofs Theatre School in Maidenhead between the ages of 12 and 16.

Samantha Keston, co-head of

the school, said: "Dani was great fun. A bubbly personality and part of a class I remember really well. We'll all be watching and I'm biased, but I think she's a winner!"

Watch Johnny and Dani on BBC One tonight (Saturday) from 6.30pm.
