Windsor wheel cuts back from six months to four

Visitors to Windsor will have less time to enjoy a popular attraction this summer.

The Royal Windsor Wheel will be returning to Alexander Gardens in May, but for just four months.

Last year the observation wheel was in motion from April to October attracting more than 200,000 visitors, but events company PWR Events has decided it is not financially viable to keep it there for the extended period.

Windsor and Eton town centre manager Paul Roach said: "At the beginning of the year PWR Events said they were looking to reduce the amount of time the wheel is in the park. Last year we extended it as a trial basis because there was demand for it, but there wasn't as much demand after September as they would have liked to see, May to August is the peak summer period.

"It is a shame, but as we know the market and economic times are tough so have to make it sustainable."

The wheel will be open daily for the fifth year from 10am to 10pm from Saturday, May 1, until Monday, August 30.
